MILAN TRENDS FROM FASHION WEEK SPRING / SUMMER 2019 COLLECTIONS…

Inevitably, I find myself very deeply drawn by Italian fashion and every concept involved in it. Its craftsmanship, tailoring, attention to details and tradition. It feels like Italians just ‘know’ how to understand and create beauty; as if it is innate in them to materialize ‘good taste’.

Runways were filled with gorgeous tailoring and fabulous touches of masculinity; beautiful mélanges of geometric prints and patterns; ruffles, feathers, fringes, pleats, romantic florals; embellished denim, shirt and pullovers-dresses; artful PJ’s, and high-fashion dresses and ensembles. Simply magnificent!

UPDATED SUITS
Outstanding tailoring with perfect doses of masculine charm were appreciated in beautiful suits; many with modern and more relaxed fits; monochromatic, plenty were head-to-toe white ones; in pastels, loud hues or prints. (Etro, Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana)

RUFFLES AND MORE RUFFLES
Artistic ruffles all over dresses, tops, toppers, bottoms; or ruffles placed strategically on the sides, hems, necklines and sleeves; injected delightful theatricality and femininity. (Elisabetta Franchi, Luisa Beccaria, Annakiki)

GEOMETRY
Elegant or playful geometric prints played key roles in many collections. Some were mixed & matched, others paired with animal prints; adding wonderful freshness and modernity.(Cividini, Emilio Pucci, Moschino)

RICH FEATHERS
There were lovely pieces; mostly dresses and skirts; covered in feathers or feathers as the stand-out detail; in fun colors or classy tones; but generating the same effect: A wonderful edgy elegance! (No.21, MSGM, Simonetta Ravizza)

THE MIDI PLEATED SKIRT
Stating the timeless value of elegance and femininity; midi-length, perfectly pleated skirts were paired with lovely tops, blouses, tailored jackets, sweaters and denim toppers. (Fendi, Marco Di Vicenzo, Iceberg)

ROMANTIC FLORALS
Romantic floral dresses had their big moment; of breezy silhouettes or hugging the body; with ruffles, draping, embellishments and ultra-feminine details; simply spectacular! (Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, Francesca Liberatore)

EMBELLISHED DENIM
Denim pieces were carefully embellished with wonderful beading, fringes, feathers, motifs, appliques, patchwork, tie-die and glittery details. (Vivetta, MSGM, Annakiki)

PULLOVER-DRESSES
Cool and casual pullover-dresses; with paillettes, logos or messages, in vibrant or tamed colors; with boots, heels or sneakers; looked super modern and updated. (Anteprima, Roberto Cavalli, Sportmax)

ARTFUL PJ’S
Fabulous PJ’s-like ensembles, in classic or loud prints, delighted. These looks were full of character, irreverence and comfort. So perfect! (Marco Di Vicenzo, Anteprima, Dolce & Gabbana)

Next stop, la Ville Lumière… Gorgeous Paris!

LONDON’S TRENDS FROM THE SPRING/SUMMER 2019 COLLECTIONS…

London’s fabulous Spring/Summer 2019 collections were charged with all the power to rock the world of the more avant-garde, risky, edgy and daring fashion souls; though, not leaving aside the more romantic, classic ones. It was delightful to see and feel the artistic and open-minded spirits of the London-based designers and fashion houses.

Runways were filled with spectacular abstract forms, prints and patterns; constructed and deconstructed pieces; voluminous silhouettes, vibrant colors, shiny metallic, multicolored stripes; ruffles; logo-prints; story-telling fabrics, skin-baring straps, cut-outs and draping; and funky accessories with a great dose of masculinity… It was great!

ABSTRATION

Gorgeous artistic abstraction, not only reflected in patterns and prints; but as well as in forms and silhouettes. A vibrant party of color elevated this great party of abstraction to its max! (Kiko Kostadinov, Mary Katrantzou, Halpern)

FULL STRUCTURE

Constructed and deconstructed pieces with edgy structure; XL sleeves, necklines, shoulder pads; A-line skirt and dresses injected so much fun and became a clear proof of wonderful craftsmanship. (Natasha Zinko, J.W. Anderson, Gareth Pugh)

METALLICS

Disco vibes were very present in the British catwalks; mostly seen in great coats, cool ensembles, and super sexy dresses with high slits, deep plunging, drape, beading, paillettes and fringes. (Gareth Pugh, Ashish, Christopher Kane)

LOGO PRINTS

There were logos stating the power and proud-attitude of their brand, in all sizes and dimensions; on tops, tees, shirts, sweatshirts, bottoms, jackets, coats and accessories. (House of Holland, MM6 Maison, Burberry)

STORY-TELLING FABRICS

Beautiful story-telling fabrics in rich colors gave special life mostly to beautiful dresses; many with A-line silhouette. (Ashley Williams, Mary Katrantzou, Simone Rocha)

SKIN-BARING

Ultra-sexy dresses and tops, revealing a great deal of skin through draping, paneling and cut-outs; stood out; in shiny, colorful or artsy printed fabrics. (Julien MacDonald, Roland Mouret, David Koma)

MULTICOLOR STRIPES

Colorful stripes in all sizes and combinations were seen in long dresses, suits, mix and match ensembles and even on accessories; clearly strengthening the artistic, edgy vibes of these fantastic collections. (Roksanda, Mart Jakubowski, Xiao Li)
