For
hundreds of years they were long sleepwear shirts used by both sex, until the
British arrived to South Asia in the 18th century. From then on, the English transformed them into shorter shirts and trousers with drawstrings after
copying the ultra-COMFORTABLE daywear of the natives.
Today, our PIJAMAS, JAMMIES or PJ’s embrace our night dreams and also (why not?) our daydreams.
Today, our PIJAMAS, JAMMIES or PJ’s embrace our night dreams and also (why not?) our daydreams.
I know…
Many of you might be thinking now that pulling off PIJAMAS in the streets could be kind of crazy... They have become such a normal ‘fashion do’ that most people do not realize that 'daytime PJ's' are part, a very GLAM part, of our everyday lives.
For years
now PJ’s have been everywhere: In runways, fashion magazines, red carpets, adorable streetstyles…
So many top designers in the fashion industry have delighted us with them in
their collections: Thakoon, 10 Crosby Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Dries
van Noten, Stella McCartney, Céline… To name just a few…
But of
course, to pull this trend or style off does not mean we will jump out of bed
and go with our JAMMIES around our neighborhood, grocery store, work or cocktail
part. No way, never… On the contrary, PJ’s in our day life could be ULTRA
CHIC, SLIMMING; IDEAL FOR ANY BODY TYPE, VERSATILE (for day & night) as
well as super COMFY if we learn how to make it right!
Here are
some simple things to keep in mind to avoid fashion disasters and look trés sensational:
1. Consider fabric type. Choose daytime PJ's in a light, silky-like fabric. Their soft and airy vibe is one of the most beautiful features of this kind look. Ah, be careful not to cross the sheer-limit.
2. Choose
the right size, meaning 'your true size'. If it fits too small (tight) o too big
(baggy), it will become a sure faux pas.
3. Take
risks when it comes to PRINTS & PATTERNS, but be cautious with XL motifs.
Try going with one PRINT head-to-toe o MIX & MATCH them… I adore this last
alternative!
4. If you
are feeling like going more conservative, wear your PJ’s in solid colors, or
mix solids with edgy PRINTS.
5. You can
also go subtle by combining PIJAMAS trousers with a classy blouse, cropped
jacket, sweater or blazer.
6. Do not
forget ACCESSORIES. Heels or wedges are your allies. Also, consider adding a
nice belt to better shape your body; and/or a statement necklace, bangles, maybe a brooch,
etc. But please, never get caught into excesses and keep your look balanced.
Now… Rock
those PJ’s, babe!!!
Life is a
runway!
XO Gaby
