Every time I think of Paris, Hemingway’s words inevitably
come to my mind (and heart)… Paris is ‘a movable feast’. It really is! This city
just spoils us in every single way; and through fashion, words become not
enough to describe the ‘how’. Don’t we all just adore la Ville Lumière?!
The spring/summer 2019 collections delivered so
much; for every taste and personality. A
fascinating mélange of strong masculinity and divine femininity was everywhere;
and that Parisian nonchalance we go crazy for, lived in every single runway.
There were spectacular androgyny; lovely slips dresses with special touches;
straight silhouettes all the way to extravagant volumes (specially on sleeves);
ethnic-influenced ensembles, gorgeous draping, fabulous asymmetry,
shirt-dresses, XL toppers, cowboy and rock & roll vibes; sweats, racer suits,
leather, PVC, pailletes, ruffles, pink, pastels, ‘a lot’ of black and white… It
was just amazing!
Let’s dig in….
ANDROGEN CHARM
Tailored suits, separates coats and accessories;
charged with the most fascinating masculinity had their huge moment on the
runways. From rock & roll to super polished… Simply spectacular! Paco Rabanne, Zadig & Voltaire, Christian Dior)
SLIPS
Slips dresses; alone or on top of t-shirts,
blouses, sweaters or pants; with much mix & match patterns and colors
involved; added an irreverent, fun modernity. (Atsushi Makashima, Jour-Ne, Maison Margiela)
GREEK GODDESSES
There were beautiful dresses recalling the enchantment
of Greek goddesses; with their harmonious draping, easy flow and bucolic airs;
mostly in soft tones; many embellished or accessorized with well thought pieces,
beading and motifs. (Chloe, Andrew GN, Ingie)
ETHNIC FASCINATION
Ethnic-influenced ensembles were seen in many
collections; through colorful fabrics, prints and patterns; mix & match, cheerful
motifs, rich embellishments, embroidery, feathers, fringes… Lovely gypsies,
African and Hindu queens fascinated. (Valentino, Gucci, Hyun Mi Nielsen)
STRAIGHT DRESSES
Shapeless, straight dresses; monochromatic or
with prints and patterns; found their way to inject beautiful charm through
their simple elegance; and yes, again, their wonderful Parisian ‘nonchalance’… (Givenchy, Marimekko, Ann Demeulemeester)
OVERSIZE TOPPERS
XL coats: Full-length ones, capes, trenches, bombers,
puffers, blazers and jackets; in tamed or loud prints and tones added divine
pizzazz. (Lemaire, Sonia Rykiel, Akris)
RACER SUITS
Racer suits, even in leather; cinched at the
waist; with zippers, small patches and tough details stood out with great
edginess, power and personality. (Marine Serre, Giddy Up, Celine)
EDGY DRAPING
Gorgeous asymmetric drapes let it clear how
creativity, art and craftsmanship are inherent in fashion. Asymmetry on necklines,
sleeves, hems, sides, details or full silhouettes; resulted in a breathtaking
avant-garde elegance. (Balenciaga, Dries Van Noten, Poiret)
FULL ASSYMETRY
Marvelous and artful asymmetric construction
and deconstruction, proportion playfulness, mixing & matching of patterns,
fabrics and embellishments; were seen in never-to-forget looks. (Sacai, Elie Saab, Givenchy)
DARK GIRLS-COWBOYS
There were superb dark girls-cowboys; in
head-to-toe black; showing off a perfect mix of powerful attitude imported from
the Wild Wild West, and that timeless Parisian pizzazz. Uffffffff… My favorite!!!
LIFE IS A RUNWAY!
