MILANO FALL/WINTER 2019 READY-TO-WEAR TRENDS…

Fabulous Milano…. Mmmmm. I am head-over-heels for this city; for its fashion and the idea involved in it; all its Italian tradition and craftsmanship. My heart can easily go back to my days as a student there, ufffff… Milano and its fashion can simply change anyone’s vision of life and style.

Let’s go through some gorgeous trends seen on the Fall/Winter 2019 collections…

TOTAL WHITE

Fabulous total-white was all over the runways. From sumptuous dresses and ultra-elegant suits, to casual and sporty looks; in all kinds of superb fabrics, where volume and layering played a key role. Simply fantastic! (Genny, Iceberg, Alberta Ferretti)

GORGEOUS ASSYMETRY

Breathtaking, artistic asymmetry; much of it resulting in spectacular texture; on tailored pieces, silky dresses and separates; voluminous coats and edgy toppers. So Milanese. (No.21, Act No.1, Gucci)

PINK + RED

Supeb ensembles in one favorite duo: Pink & red, became a top trend; mostly through strategic, stylish layering; fabulous asymmetric cuts, paneling and detailing. (Annakiki, Vivetta, Iceberg)

HIGH-WAISTED PANTS

There were lovely retro high-waisted pants and jeans; tailored or with relaxed fits; belted or not; the majority paired with tees, silky shirts, cool knits, stylish jackets and coats. (MSGM, Gucci, Laura Biagiotti)

FUTURISTIC CHARM

Stunning futuristic looks; with fabulous silhouettes, volumes, geometric structure and details; recalling imagined, idealized fashion from other planets. Monochromatic, multicolored or metallic ensembles; with sumptuous, irreverent or sporty airs, they all fascinated the public. (Byblos, Alberto Zambelli, Bottega Veneta)

EARTHY TONES

Beautiful earthy tones: Creams, nudes, beiges, yellows, oranges, greens and browns; many played together through gorgeous layering; on ensembles that echoed lovely femininity or great masculinity. (Giada, Max Mara, Fendi)

FABULOUS TAILORING

Spectacular tailoring dominated the runways; displayed  mostly through  suits and coats, with ultra-classy silhouettes and cuts, all the way to magnificent edgier ones; in all colors and for every style. Craftsmanship to its max! (Prada, Ermanno Scervino, Dolce & Gabbana)

BLACK PATENT

High-shine back patent pants, shorts, dresses, tops, jumpsuits with special touches looked so stylish and cool. A top favorite without a doubt. (Calcaterra, Emporio Armani, Emporio Armani)

COLORFUL FURS

Extravagant fur coats; in standout colors; with gorgeous extra-volume, high boots or heels, made hearts beat fast. Fantastic!

LONDON FALL/WINTER 2019 READY-TO-WEAR TRENDS…

It is always so exciting to see what London based designers has to show! This is the capital of the irreverent avant-garde… Where there is space for the coolest underground, ultra-artsy, up to super depurated fashion.

Let’s go through some of the best trends seen in these Fall/Winter 2019 ready-to-wear collections…

RICH TEXTURES

Spectacular textures became the result of the use of playful and very rich ruffles, feathers, fringes, fur, patchwork, tiers and mixed media; many looks displaying full-texture head-to-toe. (University of Westminster, 16Arlington, J.W. Anderson))

ECLECTIC LAYERING

There was cool layering through mixing masculine, tailored, knitted, artsy, bohemian, sporty and girlie pieces; in tamed and/or vibrant hues; as well as nonchalant mix & match of prints, patterns and styles. (Burberry, ASAI, Roksanda)

LOVELY MASCULINITY

Runways were full of lovely, easy masculinity. There were fabulous suits, separates and toppers in lovely wools, tweeds and tartans; tailored or with relax fitting; mostly in grey and black; but some really stood out in very alive colors; including gorgeous ombré pieces. (Bora Aksu, Marta Jakubowski, Mary Katrantzou)

EXTRAVAGANT THEATRICALITY

Extravagant ensembles recalling theatrical oeuvres; with romantic or baroque excess after their ultra-rich detailing, going from total-black looks to full-color ones. Huge necklines, sleeves, bows, ruffles; fancy fabrics and voluminous silhouettes were all over. A trend not to take too literally; but one worth not ignoring. (Halpern, Molly Goddard, Port 1961)

COOL ABSTRACTION

Wonderful dresses, separates and toppers with abstract prints and patterns; mix & matching; explosive colors, combinations and asymmetrical forms; edgy cuts and detailing, injected super cool artsy vibes. (Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou, Halpern)

VICTORIAN UPDATE

Black dresses and ensembles with bows, high necks, long sleeves, fancy details (including feathers and pearls), and opulent fabrics (silks, lace, velvet…) played a key role. They clearly voiced a relevant Victorian update. (David Koma, Simone Rocha, Alexa Chung)

Next stop, lovely Milan!
