LONDON FALL/WINTER 2019 READY-TO-WEAR TRENDS…

It is always so exciting to see what London based designers has to show! This is the capital of the irreverent avant-garde… Where there is space for the coolest underground, ultra-artsy, up to super depurated fashion.

Let’s go through some of the best trends seen in these Fall/Winter 2019 ready-to-wear collections…

RICH TEXTURES

Spectacular textures became the result of the use of playful and very rich ruffles, feathers, fringes, fur, patchwork, tiers and mixed media; many looks displaying full-texture head-to-toe. (University of Westminster, 16Arlington, J.W. Anderson))

ECLECTIC LAYERING

There was cool layering through mixing masculine, tailored, knitted, artsy, bohemian, sporty and girlie pieces; in tamed and/or vibrant hues; as well as nonchalant mix & match of prints, patterns and styles. (Burberry, ASAI, Roksanda)

LOVELY MASCULINITY

Runways were full of lovely, easy masculinity. There were fabulous suits, separates and toppers in lovely wools, tweeds and tartans; tailored or with relax fitting; mostly in grey and black; but some really stood out in very alive colors; including gorgeous ombré pieces. (Bora Aksu, Marta Jakubowski, Mary Katrantzou)

EXTRAVAGANT THEATRICALITY

Extravagant ensembles recalling theatrical oeuvres; with romantic or baroque excess after their ultra-rich detailing, going from total-black looks to full-color ones. Huge necklines, sleeves, bows, ruffles; fancy fabrics and voluminous silhouettes were all over. A trend not to take too literally; but one worth not ignoring. (Halpern, Molly Goddard, Port 1961)

COOL ABSTRACTION

Wonderful dresses, separates and toppers with abstract prints and patterns; mix & matching; explosive colors, combinations and asymmetrical forms; edgy cuts and detailing, injected super cool artsy vibes. (Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou, Halpern)

VICTORIAN UPDATE

Black dresses and ensembles with bows, high necks, long sleeves, fancy details (including feathers and pearls), and opulent fabrics (silks, lace, velvet…) played a key role. They clearly voiced a relevant Victorian update. (David Koma, Simone Rocha, Alexa Chung)

Next stop, lovely Milan!
